The meadow in May

A lot of the photos of the meadow that we have from last year are from late June until we closed at the end of September. At this time the grass is high and everything has a slightly wild and overgrown feel. I love sunny Suffolk in the summer for its hazy days and the constant sound of bees buzzing in the background.

Today though I walked out onto the meadow to tidy up yesterdays clay oven course and fell in love all over again. The sun is shining, the damson blossom is floating about like confetti and the birds are singing their hearts out as if they are trying to get as much said before the next rain shower. So I thought it would be nice to show you Ling’s Meadow in late Spring so you understand why I might be a bit distracted over the next couple of weeks!

The beginnings of a clay pizza oven

It is now just two weeks before we open our doors to an enthusiastic group of pizza oven course participants. So on Saturday we thought it was about time we got round to making the base that our oven will sit on.

Neel and I tend to work on the principal that if it is lying around the farm it will get worked in to the design somewhere. And so true to form, our ‘ingredients’ list ended up consisting of ……..

London to Ling’s Meadow on two wheels

Last year several of our campers brought their bicycles with them, or borrowed ours, and set off to explore the local area. Suffolk and Norfolk are great counties to cycle in – nice and flat with lots of pubs or other places of interest to call in at. This year we will continue to lend out our trusty team of pre-loved bikes and provide a home for your travel companions too. The cycling maps will still be available in the bike shed, but we will now also add some suggested places to cycle to.

Thanks to our very good (and far more athletic) friend Paul Calver we also now have a tried and tested route from London to Ling’s Meadow for you to try out. Here is the map that Paul kindly created for us. You can find further details at our Mapmyride page http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/349183349.

Wild flower meadow

I have just sown the first of the new wild flower seeds on the meadow. Here are some pictures of the flowers that we hope to see – I will be keeping my fingers crossed as they are notoriously difficult to establish!

The power of plants

We are very aware of the problem of water shortage here on the farm. After all, in years past East Anglia has been officially classed as a desert! Every year we get half way through the summer and find ourselves literally scraping the bottom of the rain water tanks to water the plants around the … Read more

Winter warmer

Oh my word it is wintry out there today! I was just getting used to the ray of sunshine that was lulling us into a false sense of security and now it has all changed again. Never mind, while we are waiting for the sun to reappear, I have a found an image of our … Read more

New for 2014 – food delivered to your tent door!

There is nothing worse than arriving on the campsite after a hard days work with a grumbling tummy and an empty cool box….and then, to add insult to injury, the farm shop closed five minutes ago. Panic not! We tried to persuade the farm shop to become a 24 hour concern but they were not … Read more
