Apple day

Last weekend we said goodbye to our final campers for the season. We have loved every minute of this summer and can’t wait for next year, but for now we have to pack away and start thinking about all of the Autumn jobs around the farm. The weather has been glorious over the last few … Read more

I can’t believe it has been a month since I last updated the blog! So much has happened in that time that it feels like a year ago. We have been flat out on the campsite, meeting loads of lovely new campers and glampers, testing all the home-made eco technology and making adjustments here and there.

Now things are beginning to wind down for the end of the season and the beautiful summer days that we have  recently been enjoying are ending with an extra log or two on the campfire to keep everyone toastie. Never fear, however, as the colder evenings herald one of my favourite times of year – damson harvest!

Oh the joys of damson sponge pudding, damson and apple cobbler and best of all – glorious damson gin. Now if you haven’t tried damson gin, oh boy are you in for a treat.  Our bell tenters have been testing last years vintage for us and so far reports have been favourable, if a little slurred.

This year’s crop are coming along nicely and will probably be ready by the end of next week. So if you are thinking of making a trip to see us before the end of this season we can add in the bonus of pick your own damsons (and sloes!). I have added a recipe below to provide inspiration and maybe a little bit of temptation!

First week and a new sign!

And breathe…….wow, what a week. Our first campers and glampers have turned up and are enjoying the sunshine. We managed to build a bell tent deck in 24 hours and the new sign turned up just in time to welcome our first weekend guests! Here are some images of the meadow and bell tents … Read more

Two weeks to go!

Just two weeks to go now until our first guests arrive – we can’t wait! It feels like a long time since I last reported on progress. We have been so busy building that I haven’t had a chance to keep you up to date. It has been worth the long hours though as we … Read more

Turf wars and crop circles

Oh boy, where to start! Well, the good weather has been a bit of a blessing this weekend as we have desperately needed to get on with some ground works. Our first task involved battling with a stubborn turf cutter in order to clear an area of the car park that needed levelling off – … Read more

Its official!

Feel a bit like a big grown up campsite now as we are officially listed on Go Glamping and Pitch Up! I just hope we get some sunshine soon or we will have to do a Gene Kelly and start singing in the rain (I think I might be showing my age again). …… Oh, … Read more

Loo with a view

After a hectic week Neel is back and ready to build. The first composting toilet is beginning to take shape and we are really pleased with it. It already feels quite cosy inside and the extra height gives a lovely view across the meadow. I think I am just about pulling my weight as an … Read more

Sunny Suffolk

What a glorious day. At one point I actually had to come indoors to get out of the sun! The irony is that Neel (who unlike me actually knows one end of a hammer from the other) is away for a few days so work outdoors on the first compost loo is temporarily on hold. … Read more

Willowgate

Inspired by the beautiful work of Graham North last week I have attempted to weave a willow gate for access through the fedge. Not too bad for a first attempt but I won’t give up the day job!

Five little speckled frogs

Standing by the pond this morning I thought I could hear the distant rumblings of motorbikes tearing along the B1111. It took me a few minutes to realise that it was actually the work of five loved up frogs serenading me from among the irises. It took me a few more minutes to notice the … Read more
